Have your say on new high street installation for Notting Hill Gate

Published: Wednesday 22 June 2022

Notting Hill Gate is set to get a refresh as part of a design competition inviting creative teams to create innovative and attractive public installations on the high street.

The six shortlisted designs for a new installation will be open for viewing and feedback with the local community through an online and in-person exhibition at Kensington Central Library. The exhibition will be open from Thursday 23 June until Thursday 30 June.

Kensington and Chelsea Council partnered with the London Festival of Architecture to run the competition for London-based architects and designers to share their ideas and reimagine the high street.

As part of the Council’s efforts to improve key high street locations in the borough, Notting Hill Gate will benefit from an innovative new investment as the Council will commission the final design, which could include seating, greening, lighting, interactive elements and artwork.

The winning team will be announced in July 2022 and funds of up to £100,000 will be available to develop a fully costed, feasible design that can be delivered at the end of 2022 or early 2023.
The finalists are:

  • Afterparty and Urban Radicals
  • Nooma Studio
  • George King Architects and Grow to Know
  • MachSwift, ThinkFOUND and Wood Street Walls
  • Andre Kong Studio and Wayward AK Studio
  • Community Green Line WRAP and COLAB19

You can view the online exhibition and share your feedback. There will also be an option to share feedback via a paper copy at the in-person exhibition. If you have any queries you can contact the Council’s team at [email protected]
