The Council has published a draft design brief for the Lots Road South area of the borough to provide guidance for developers in the future.
The area is unique, originally a working area of industry and commercial riverside uses, compared to the rest of Chelsea which is broadly residential.
So far, the change in the area has been led by the redevelopment of the Lots Road Power Station. Further development is at the former Imperial Gasworks site and the Chelsea Waterfront development, which is now close to completion.
It has been created following community engagement workshops, where residents had their say on the creation of design principles for any future development. The design brief includes 15 design principles, from area identity to guidance on sustainability, public spaces and character of the architecture. The code is not a planning policy or application, but a set of principles and challenges developers will be required to consider if they submit a planning application to develop the area.
You can read the draft report in full and take part in the consultation on the Council’s planning portal until 6 March 2022.
