A new development delivering 83 new Council-owned homes in the heart of North Kensington has been given the green light.

At a meeting held on Tuesday 15 March 2022, Kensington and Chelsea Council’s Planning Applications Committee granted permission for the scheme on Barlby Road.

Alongside the much-needed new homes, the majority of which will be available at social or intermediate rent, the plans will provide a new indoor sports facility and extensions to a dental practice and community garden.

The plans were shaped by feedback received during two rounds of public consultation and two “You said, We did” resident engagement sessions held in September 2021.

Work is expected to begin on site in Summer 2022, with the first residents able to move into their new homes by the end of 2024.

Cllr Kim Taylor-Smith, Lead Member for Grenfell, Housing and Social Investment, said:

“We’re working hard to increase the supply of affordable housing in Kensington and Chelsea and the majority of this exciting development will provide much-needed places to live for those on our Housing Register and the borough’s key workers.

“Each property we are able to build through our New Homes Delivery Programme is much more than bricks and mortar – it’s a safe, high-quality place that local people and families will be able to call home.”

Barlby Road is one of the Council’s Phase 2 sites in its New Homes Delivery Programme which aims to build 600 new homes, 300 of which are for social rent.
