New, free e-learning courses are now available to local people seeking to gain entry level qualifications in the food sector, through The Council’s Environmental Health Training Service.
The courses are open to residents based in the areas of in the areas of Dalgarno, Notting Dale, Golborne, and ties into Council’s work to improve health equality and reduce obesity and deprivation – which are comparatively higher in those areas than the rest of the borough according to the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
In addition, the UK food and hospitality sector has seen a shortage of employees as a result of the pandemic. This e-learning courses aims to provide a vital stepping-stone to support those most in need with an opportunity to embark on a career in the food sector.
The course aims to upskill our local people as well as boost our food and hospitality businesses and local economy.
Candidates who successfully complete one course may enrol onto another. The offer is limited to the funding available so will be allocated on a first come, first served basis for those eligible.
Who qualifies for free e-learning?
- RBKC residents in target wards (Dalgarno, Notting Dale, Golborne) who are unemployed, switching careers or starting a new food business.
- Employees of small independent caterers or retailers in target wards (Dalgarno, Notting Dale, Golborne) who have or are working towards The Healthy Catering Commitment Award
- Employees of RBKC Food Banks
- People who need support with transitioning into a career in catering and have been identified through RBKC Early Years, Young Offending, Safeguarding Teams etc.
What courses are on offer?
- Food Hygiene level 1 and 2
- Health and Safety Level 1 and 2
- Introduction to Allergens
- First Aid at Work
