Residents and visitors are being invited to share their thoughts and feelings from throughout the pandemic as part of an exciting post-lockdown art project to be revealed in Kensington Central Library this autumn.
Supported by Kensington and Chelsea Libraries service, the ‘Worst of Times, The Best of Times’ interactive art project wants members of the Kensington and Chelsea community to share their feelings about the pandemic, name ‘the book that saved their life in 2020’ and include details of their reading habits – or non-reading habits – during and post-lockdown.
The project is being spearheaded by talented artists Francesca Giuliano and Mike Abrahams, who will interpret the answers into two art pieces, one each for the ‘Best of Times’ and ‘Worst of Times’, incorporating responses, book titles and author names.
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Skills and Enterprise, said:
“This art project is a great way to bring together the collective thoughts and voices of our wonderfully diverse community during the past year and a half and to remember those memories and moments in a unique way.
“The good moments, the difficult times and challenging events that we have all lived through during the pandemic will have a lasting affect on us all. This reminds us that, as a community and with the help of books and reading, we got through this together. I can’t wait to see the unveiling of the finished piece at Kensington Central Library.”
Submissions will be collated throughout July and August with the final art works expected to be revealed in autumn.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 31 August at 11.59pm. Share your thoughts and responses for the interactive art project through a short questionnaire.
This project is one of a number of exciting events happening in the borough, and you can find out what else is on through the Kensington and Chelsea Summer of Love. Other activities include the K+C Festival, Wildlife Bingo in Holland Park and Summer Sundays at Portobello Market.
