All of the borough libraries have been closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, however a restricted area has now been opened in North Kensington Library to provide access to computers. Residents will be able to use the computers in 45-minute slots for essential tasks such as applying for jobs or virtual learning.

With the social distancing restrictions currently in place, the Council wants to make sure that residents can still use library resources to help meet their needs and access to a computer could be vital for some who don't have that provision at home.

With safety a top priority, the service will be delivered with strict rules in place, which include:

  • Access is only open to the computer area and all other areas of the library are closed, including toilets
  • Computers are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by staff between each use and are cleaned again at the end of each day
  • A two metre distance will be kept between all staff and visitors and computer desks are spaced at least two metres apart
  • All computer usage will be monitored by staff

Essential PC usage is open to all residents without a need to book ahead. Visitors can turn up Monday to Friday between 10am – 4pm and will be directed to a computer by staff.

Along with the new PC provision, the Libraries service has introduced other initiatives to help people in the borough. The virtual library offering features more online classes, events, and interactive resources, a phone service to speak with a librarian is now open, and the Home Library Service supports vulnerable residents who can’t leave their homes at all.
