Two court orders in two days have helped the Council protect residents in North Kensington from anti-social behaviour (ASB).
Council officers successfully obtained an injunction on Tuesday 15 February, which prohibits a specific individual from being physically or verbally aggressive towards residents and using drugs in other people’s properties. Should the named individual breach this injunction, further court action can be taken and could result in the person being arrested.
The following day, the team were back at court looking to obtain an outright possession order for a property that has caused ongoing ASB issues for the local community. Neighbours had reported individuals visiting the property and taking advantage of the resident’s vulnerabilities to sell drugs from their home. Previous interventions, such as closure orders, had been unsuccessful, so the Council decided to take tougher action, applying for powers that would allow them to use bailiffs to regain possession of the property, which were granted by the judge.
Cllr Kim Taylor-Smith, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Housing, said:
“We will not tolerate it and will work the police to take action wherever we can. We’ve had dedicated officers tackling anti-social behaviour within our housing estates since December 2020 to better protect our tenants, leaseholders and their properties. Since then, we’ve secured eleven court orders, ultimately safeguarding some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
“It’s important our residents continue to be our eyes and ears and report any concerns they may have to us as soon as possible.”
