As the borough gears up for the festive season, the Council is working with local businesses to showcase what the borough has to offer, including festive events, seasonal shopping promotions and massive competition prizes to be won.
Whether you’re out shopping for Christmas gifts, meeting friends for that annual festive get-together, or you’re simply looking to explore all the seasonal fun that the local area has to offer, ‘A K&C Christmas’ is the Council’s campaign to help you make the most of the borough.
- Kick off Christmas at Sloane Square on Small Business Saturday – 4 December – with live jazz serenading shoppers and diners
- Win prizes by posting a photo of your favourite festive spot in #OurRBKC Christmas photo competition to win a fabulous festive hamper of goodies from local businesses.
- Shop at Kensington Town Hall Square with a festive market 9-12 December and live interactive performances 18 - 19 December
- Visit the world-famous Portobello Market for a special festive edition, Sundays in December
- Meet Santa as he stops by his grotto in Kensington Central Library on 10 and 11 December
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Skills and Enterprise, said:
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year and there is so much to see and do on your doorstep in Kensington and Chelsea. From Christmas markets, to shopping destinations, restaurants, cafes, museums, parks and more. Kensington and Chelsea has curated special seasonal events to add that festive sparkle for all our residents and visitors and to welcome you to our high streets. Make sure you don't miss out all that Christmas in the borough has to offer.”
A K&C Christmas will feature a number of special events, launching with festive sparkle at Duke of York Square on the 4 December, which also coincides with Small Business Saturday. Shoppers will have the opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit to the classy, soulful beats of the 606 Jazz Club, who will be serenading shoppers with the best of jazzy Christmas classics. Also on the day will be a festive market and entertainment hosted by Cadogan.
The Council will also be hosting it’s very first ‘Christmas on the Square’, a long weekend of exciting festive markets hosted over four days, from 9 to 12 December – showcasing the best our local traders and small businesses have to offer! Pop by for unique items, special gift ideas and pop-up performances from local talent. The Christmas on the Square activity continues on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December with a variety of interactive performances for all ages.
Other special events include ‘Christmas at Portobello’, which is back this year with special Sunday markets running from 28 November to 19 December. Stop by to pick up delicious foodie goodies and unique gifts with an extra day to shop at Portobello and Golborne Market.
The Council has also launched its Christmas Photo Competition to kick off K&C Christmas. One lucky winner will have the opportunity to win a fabulous festive hamper of goodies from local businesses.
There will be plenty to for the kids to do too, especially with Santa making a quick stop at his magical grotto in the Kensington Central Library on 10th and 11th December! Children can also stop by for Christmas activities on the 18th December and there also be options to book Christmas parties.
If you’ve got a serious case of the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) don’t despair! The Council will also be launching an online Christmas Advent Calendar with of all the wonderful festive events happening throughout December.
