This training programme is open only to practitioners who work in either Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, or Westminster. If you do not work in these three areas please contact your local safeguarding children partnership for local training opportunities’
COVID-19 update
In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership is working to adapt the safeguarding children training offer. The following workshops will be delivered online and bookings are now open.
This is a changing situation, and we will review this regularly.

Introduction to Safeguarding Children (level 1)

Please note this workshop will cost £50 to private and profit making services. It is free to statutory and voluntary sector agencies.
This workshop provides an introduction to the concept of safeguarding children including an exploration of why safeguarding is important, the laws and legislation underpinning our responsibilities, what to look out for and what to do if something is concerning.
The workshop is ideal for those practitioners who are new to working with children and perhaps do not have a great deal of direct contact with children on a daily basis.
The workshop is an introduction, therefore is not suitable for those who are in more direct or senior roles unless they have no previous safeguarding experience.
Learning Outcomes:
- An opportunity to address and manage personal attitudes and beliefs
- Gain a basic understanding of the legislative framework
- Gain a basic understanding of how to raise concerns appropriately within each agency
- Have an understanding of possible signs and symptoms of abuse and harm
- Know whom to contact about concerns and for making referrals
Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection Workshop (level 3) (full day or two half days)

Please note this workshop will cost £80 to private and profit making services. It is free to statutory and voluntary sector agencies.
The workshop includes a range of scenarios designed to explore the various risks children and young people face in our communities. There is more in depth knowledge around legislation and the child protection process is explored. The thresholds of intervention (early help, child in need and child protection) are examined and the referral process is outlined.
This workshop is suitable for those practitioners who work directly with children or parents. Those who attend this workshop should have a basic understanding of safeguarding children and what to look out for but they do not have to have attended with the LSCP.
Learning Outcomes:
- Have up to date information about safeguarding children including how to make a referral and an understanding of the thresholds in Child in Need and Child Protection.
- Have knowledge of the lessons from local and national serious case reviews
- Know what is required as members of Child Protection Conferences and Core Groups
- Have explored the barriers to communicating and sharing information both within and outside your organisations and considered what you can personally do to improve the situation
Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (level 3) Refresher
½ Day Refresher
For providers who are private or fee paying the cost will be £50
This half-day workshop provides an update to practitioners who have attended the above workshop within the past 3 years. New and upcoming legislative changes are explored and emerging or changing risks are highlighted in group work with scenarios.
This course is not suitable for practitioners who have not attended the full day Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection course before.
Learning Outcomes
- Have up to date information about the legal and procedural framework for safeguarding children (thresholds guide, local assessment protocol, referral process, new legislation)
- Understand the role of the LSCP and this year’s (21-22) LSCB priorities.
- Update your knowledge and understanding of Modern Slavery, CE, and LADO enquiries and how to respond appropriately.
- Have knowledge of the lessons from local and national serious case reviews
Safer Recruitment Workshop (online)

Instructions for how to join using Microsoft Teams will be sent to delegates who secure a place.
This full-day workshop (delivered in x4 90 min sessions) is accredited by the Lucy Faithfull foundation and is suitable for managers and HR staff, including those who are involved in recruiting. The workshop provides a comprehensive approach to recruiting which aims to reduce the risk of unsuitable people gaining access to children through employment or voluntary work. (please note this workshop is aimed at staff working in education sector but the general principles are applicable to any section of the children's workforce).
The workshop highlights a model of sex-offender’s behaviour which is then applied to the recruitment process to show how organisations can work towards preventing offenders from working in their setting. This workshop also explores how organisations can create an ongoing culture of vigilance and support staff to ensure this is organisation-wide.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, delegates will:
- Have an awareness of the need for safer recruitment
- Be aware of the means by which unsuitable people can gain access to children and vulnerable people
- Be aware of the means by which safer recruitment can be achieved
- Be aware of the processes for handling allegations against staff in order that staff have the confidence to identify those who may pose a risk to children and vulnerable people, and so that staff will know what to do if/when they have to deal with these issues.
Meet the LADO workshop (online)
Book a place at the Meet the LADO Workshop (online) via Eventbrite.
Instructions for how to join using Microsoft Teams will be sent to delegates who secure a place.
This 2-hour workshop, delivered by the Local Authority Designated Officers (for LBHF, RBKC and WCC) provides an introduction to the process by which allegations against professionals and volunteers are managed.
Delegates will be guided through when they should consult and/or refer to the LADO services, and what the next steps in the process are. Delegates will also made aware of what their roles and responsibilities are.
The workshop It is suitable for managers, deputy managers, governors and trustees.
This workshop touches on some areas from the Safer Recruitment workshop but it is not a replacement for that workshop.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, delegates will:
- Understand the legal framework for safeguarding in a professional context and the role of the LADO
- Explore how allegations against professionals are managed
- Understand how to make a referral to the LADO and what information needs to be shared and considered.
Safeguarding Children: Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control
Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference MARAC (online) workshop

A virtual half-day (9.30am to 1pm) workshop session for practitioners from RBKC, WCC & LBHF agencies who may refer to MARAC.
Aims:
To increase awareness of frontline staff and managers on:
- The dynamics of domestic abuse;
- Domestic abuse risk assessment, including the SafeLives DASH Risk Indicator Checklist (RIC);
- The MARAC process.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will feel more skilled and confident in understanding:
- The dynamics of domestic abuse;
- What constitutes a high-risk domestic abuse case;
- The scope and purpose of the MARAC, including how the MARAC fits alongside the on-going risk reduction work of frontline agencies;
- How to refer to the MARAC.
Child Sexual Exploitation CSE: A Trauma Focused Approach (online):

This online workshop (10am to 3pm) will increase participants awareness of sexual exploitation as a form of sexual abuse, enabling them to identify vulnerability and risks indicators to better enhance practitioners’ ability to safeguard young people at risk of CSE.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, participants will have:
- Discussed own and society’s attitudes, beliefs and values to young women, sexual activity and sexual exploitation
- Defined child sexual exploitation
- Increased awareness of what makes young women / people vulnerable to sexual exploitation
- Increased awareness of the global impact of trauma as a consequence of CSE from a neuroscience perspective.
- Increased awareness of the clinical conceptualizations related to impact of trauma
- Be aware of the law, guidance, policies and procedures relating to sexual exploitation and young women / people
Social Media workshop delivered by the Social Switch project

To be an effective professional, be it a social worker, police officer, teacher or youth worker, we must address all parts of a young person’s life, including their digital world. We cannot afford to switch off from social media; we need to switch on to the language young people use, understand how we approach harmful online activity, and learn to encourage positive online behaviour.
This training will:
- Build your understanding of young people's online behaviour and how you can support them to become positive voices online
- Discuss the safeguarding risks associated with social media use and how to appropriately respond
- Support you to assess your own social media practices when working with young people
- Improve your understanding of the steps you can take to build resilience in young people dealing with potentially harmful content
- Increase your capacity to support young people to be positive voices online
Harmful Practices: Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) (2 hour workshop)

This 2 hour workshop delivered by the FGM lead for the three boroughs is an important area of learning about harmful practices, within the wider context of safeguarding children.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Have an understanding of children at risk of female genital mutilation and the different levels
- Be able to safeguard children at risk of female genital mutilation
- Be able to make appropriate referrals when concerns are raised in relation to or about female genital mutilation
- Have an understanding of what happens after referrals have been made and what support is available
- Have an understanding of your duties in relation to mandatory reporting of FGM
Harmful Practices: Forced Marriage

This 2.5 hour workshop delivered by Asian Women's Resource Centre is an important area of learning around harmful cultural practices, within the wider context of safeguarding children and the VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) strategy.
Learning Outcomes:
- To understand the cultural significance of forced marriage.
- To have an increased awareness of the risks and prevalence of forced marriage.
- To have increased knowledge of how to identify women and girls who may be at risk of any harmful practices.
- To have knowledge of referral pathways and support services for women and girls at risk of any harmful practices (including forced marriage, so-called honor-based abuse, and faith-based abuse).
- To have knowledge of the P&ACT partnership
