Young Carers
A young carer is a child or young person who provides care, assistance or support to a parent, sibling or other family member. A young carer carries out, often on a regular basis, caring tasks which may include domestic help in the home, general and nursing-type care, emotional support, intimate personal care or child care for other siblings.
Support for young carers is available from the Family Services teams in the relevant borough. The Family Services teams will provide:
- all young carers with a whole family assessment of need
- one to one support for young carers with a high level of need
- advice to support young carers in their caring role, and
- information about other support services available to children and young people in the boroughs
