Residents of the Lancaster West Estate can borrow thermal imaging cameras to help identify cold spots in their homes thanks to a pioneering scheme being piloted on the estate.
Some of our Councillors took a look at the kit in action, and saw the benefits of some of the newly installed triple glazed windows at Hurstway Walk.
If you live on Lancaster West you can borrow the kit from Baseline – we’ll show you how to use it to find out which parts of your home may not be as thermally efficient as others.
Once you’ve identified areas of concern we’ll work with you to offer solutions like draft excluders, and we’ll also use the data to help guide where we programme improvements to insulation and ventilation across the estate.
Cllr Kim Taylor Smith, Deputy Leader with responsibility for housing, said:
“We’re proud of this pioneering thermal imaging equipment loan scheme which will help us make Lancaster West a paragon 21st Century estate with safe, secure and warm homes for residents.
“The scheme will help people identify fast fixes in their homes while we roll out our programme of major works across the estate.
“This will help us be a carbon net zero council by 2030 while also helping residents keep their energy bills lower once work has been carried out in their home; all part of our Council Plan to be greener, safer and fairer.”
The Council has set out a £120m major works programme to upgrade windows and insulation across the estate as part of its ambitious £400m commitment to upgrading council homes across the borough. The ambition is for the Council to be carbon neutral by 2030 and for Kensington and Chelsea to be a carbon neutral borough by 2040.
