Reminder about help available as energy price cap rises

Published: Friday 26 August 2022

You will have no doubt read in the news about the energy price cap rising and what this means for household energy bills.

All households will receive a £400 payment from the Government's Energy Bills Support Scheme which will be spread over six months. The first payment is due to be made in October 2022. If you pay by direct debit, you will see this discount applied automatically to your bill. If you have a prepayment meter, you will be contacted by post and will likely receive a cheque or vouchers.

Households in receipt of certain benefits will receive an additional cost of living payment of £650 paid as two lump sums. If you are entitled to this payment, you do not need to apply and will be awarded the payment automatically. You can find more information about whether you qualify for this payment here.

Pensioners born on or before 25 September 1956 will receive an additional payment of between £150 and £350 depending on your circumstances.
