A two-year reign of terror by a nuisance neighbour has ended in a court appearance, a criminal record, and paying out compensation and court costs.
The resident from Earl’s Court Road was reported to the housing noise nuisance team in 2021, and his now subject to a 12-month community order.
“The team had to make several visits to the property”
Loud music during unsociable hours, disruptive behaviour including shouting, screaming, and dumping furniture and other items in the property’s communal areas led one neighbour to call the Council housing department’s antisocial behaviour (ASB) team to make a complaint.
The team made several visits to the property to remind the resident of the terms of his tenancy and to issue warnings, he was also visited by the Police on more than one occasion.
“Arrested and charged with common assault”
However, the behaviour continued. Driven to distraction, one neighbour confronted the troublemaker directly. Unfortunately, this resulted in the victim being headbutted, leading to injuries to their face.
The resident was arrested and charged with common assault. The ASB team and the police have been providing support to the victim since the attack.
"£100 to compensate the victim”
On Wednesday 3 January, Westminster Magistrates Court sentenced the resident to a 12-month community order and made him pay £100 to compensate the victim for the harm caused. He was also charged for court costs as well.
The team is now able a explore how the Council can further protect neighbours in the area, and is exploring all options available to them, which may include applying for an injunction or even eviction.
Councillor Sof McVeigh, Lead Member for Housing, said:
Despite warning after warning, this individual did not get the message. His aggression, behaviour and contempt for his neighbours has led to a day in court, a criminal record, fines and a community order.
Our Housing ASB team is dedicated to making sure that our residents can live safely in their own homes in peace and without fear.
