Our Housing Management directorate has achieved a five star rating for health and safety following an audit by the British Safety Council (BSC).
We’re committed to becoming the best council so we invited the BSC to scrutinise our approach to safety and make sure we are doing all we can.
The audit included a week-long inspection of our offices, and capital programme and repairs job sites to observe how we ensure the safety of staff, residents and other stakeholders.
The auditor also reviewed sample paperwork and interviewed a range of staff including directors, leaders from the health and safety and fire safety team, as well as front line staff.
On reviewing the service the audit report said:
“There are excellent standards of health, safety and wellbeing management at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Housing Management Services. There is clear commitment from senior management who are supported by an enthusiastic and competent health and safety team, and fire safety team. All safety issues carry a high priority and both teams are well-resourced with competent personnel.”
The audit measured the Housing Management service against four elements:
- Organisational leadership, commitment and planning,
- Implementation and operation,
- Performance monitoring and measurement, and
- Evaluation and continual improvement
Having assessed the service on 57 different elements within the above categories the auditors rated the service at 92.09 per cent, placing it in the highest category.
