Councillor Sof McVeigh our Lead Member for Housing Management, Housing Safety, and Building New Homes paid a visit to the team working on the transformation the four tower blocks on the Silchester Estate in North Kensington.
You can see what Councillor McVeigh and the project team got up to by watching the video below!
We are investing over £40 million over the next three years to transform the homes of our residents. We committed to this significant investment after listening carefully to what residents wanted and they were clear they wanted to remain in their homes throughout the process.
Since May this year our Contractors; Equans have been on the estate setting themselves up and preparing to start the work. They have set up shop on tennis court 10 behind Markland Tower, this is where key members of the team can be found working hard day to day.
Those living in the area will have noticed that scaffolding has been put up on Markland Tower and this is to ensure that the team on site can access the whole building to carry out the necessary repairs. For the moment they are focusing on repairing the concrete and brickwork and will be moving onto replacing windows in the coming months!
To date the team have also successfully replaced the emergency lighting in the communal areas and cleared the concierge area to make way for more improvement works. The team will then continue to carry out the same work across the rest of the towers on the estate.
During the visit Cllr McVeigh said
There are four towers on this estate and each tower has 80 homes in it so its really essential that we do this work and get all the homes up to standard.”
