Our Building Safety Managers have been very busy visiting residents at some of our sheltered accommodation properties and talking to them about the importance of fire and building safety.
A series of three events held at Chelsea Farmhouse, Nursery Lane, and Tavistock House throughout March. These events were aptly named ‘Chippy & Chat’ with food provided by local fish and chip restaurants across the borough – this, teamed with all things building safety related proved to be a popular mix with residents!
These events provided an effective way of engaging with some of our most vulnerable residents on very important topics such as the importance of fire & smoke alarms and understanding the difference between the two.
Colleagues from Aico (our contractors responsible for the installation and monitoring of our fire and smoke alarm systems) joined the team at all the events and were able to demonstrate, using models, how both fire and smoke alarms work and explain the differences between them.
During these events, the team was also able to talk through the future upgrade packages that the Council is planning to carry out. These include installing new flat front doors, loft compartmentation works, upgrading alarm systems, and installing new cross corridor doors.
All of the above provided our provided residents with a proactive and comprehensive overview of how we are continuing to prioritise resident safety.
Our new team of Building Safety Managers looks forward to organising more events across the borough in the coming months.
