The flags were flying, the music at a suitable volume, and the Pepper Pot Centre packed as our resident engagement team hosted a celebratory lunch for Grenada’s fiftieth year of independence.
The event was for our older residents and included music, dancing and speeches as well as a delicious lunch of soup, roti, curry, rice and veg.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Dori Schmetterling, opened the event but the jewel in the crown was speeches from some of the Pepperpot Centre’s elderly members who shared their experiences of living in the borough. We also welcomed Yvette Philbert, deputy ambassador from Grenada to the Commonwealth.
It was a great event giving residents a chance to engage with the Housing team in a different way, and especially a community that we don’t reach that often.
The resident engagement team have continued with a further series of events this week. If you’d like to find out more about our resident involvement service, and ways you can work with us to make a difference in your local area, email Christina Charles at [email protected].
