Kinship care
On this page
Family and friends care
Friends and family care, or kinship care, is for children who can't live with their parents.
This could include people who are not related to the child but who the child knows well and trusts such as:
- a close family friend
- a neighbour
- the parents of a friend
- foster carers
Arrangements
You can make private arrangements for friends and family care or formalise it through the legal system.
Our policy sets out the principles and arrangements for those caring for children under friends and family arrangements.
