How does poetry create space to zoom into moments in time, to linger on the sensation of joy? With our ever changing landscape, and societal difficulties it is often hard to prioritise seeking or identifying joy in our lives. Often we hone in on the dreariness and pain, the ache of weariness. It is imperative we locate and name that which brings us joy. Happiness holds us in ways that nothing else can.
Start the new year with a focus on expressive writing, on gratitude and uplifting communal sharing. We will indulge in the elated mundane, beginning the year with intention, exploring the sensory of joy and finding new ways to document the sensations that evoke moments of happiness.
Jemilea Wisdom-Baako is a British-Jamaican poet and founder of Writerz and Scribez CIC. A London Writers Award and Poetry London’s mentoring scheme recipient, she was shortlisted for the Rebecca Swift Women's Poetry Prize and The Bridport Poetry Prize. Jemilea is a graduate of the Advanced Faber Poetry Course, her work appears in Magma, Pittsburgh Poetry Review, Good Journal, and elsewhere.
All levels and abilities are welcome. Places are limited, so do book your place in advance.
