Black History Month at Libraries and Archives
This event is part of a special programme of events and book displays, delivered by Libraries and Archives, to celebrate Black History Month throughout October 2022. The theme is ‘Time for Change: Action Not Words’. Join us as part of the nationwide celebration of Black History, Arts and Culture in the UK.
We take a look at Black Entrepreneurship in its glory and share the journey to owning your own business. Sharing his experience is Ray French, a tailor, designer teacher and CEO of his own business. Ray will discuss how to start up a business, how to seek funding and the potential pit falls along the way.
Ray was brought up in Ladbroke Grove and formed an interest in design from an early age. He went on to open his own shop in Camden High Street designing and making made to measure outfits for both men and women. This lead to him working for many famous designers during London, Paris and New York fashion week, such as Zandra Rhodes and Vivienne Westwood to name a few. He later gained qualifications in teaching as he wanted to share his skills and knowledge with others. At present, through his company, Thread The Needle, he works with students of fashion as well as anyone who has a passion for sewing or designing.
