Basement Surveys
The development of basements under existing housing is a matter of considerable concern to many residents.
The Council is, therefore, reviewing the approach to be taken to basements. As part of this review we carried out a survey in August/September 2012 to better understand residents’ concerns.
This survey had three elements:
- a survey of those who live in properties which have benefited from planning permission for a basement: Basements Questionnaire: Owners
- a survey for those neighbours who have been consulted with regard to these planning permissions: Basements Questionnaire: Neighbours
- a more qualitative survey to residents’ associations seeking details of the range of impacts that basements may have had: Basements Questionnaire: Residents’ Associations
The responses to the surveys can be found by following the links below

The responses were used to inform the draft Core Strategy basement policy which was consulted upon in December 2012/ January 2013.
