Thousands of residents in Kensington and Chelsea receive over £1.3m cost-of-living support

Published: Wednesday 31 July 2024

Kensington and Chelsea Council has helped more than 13,000 residents with a £100 low-income support payment to help with the cost-of-living.
Launched earlier this year in February, the £100 low-income support payments were aimed at providing financial support to those who need it the most.

Who received the payment?

Since May this year, over £1.3 million low-income support payments have been made to residents who are in receipt of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and/or Universal Credit Housing Allowance to help towards household bills, food, clothing or travel costs.

Am I eligible?

Residents can find out their eligibility and access the £100 support payment by visiting the Low-income support webpage on the Council’s website.

The £100 Low-income support payment is funded through the Council’s Cost of Living Reserve fund. This offer is in addition to the Council’s wider support including the Council Tax Reduction Scheme helping those on low income to help pay their Council Tax.

Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council said:

"The Council is committed to helping residents with the cost-of-living and this £100 payment is a step towards supporting those who need it the most.

"We recognize longer-term support is needed and we want to help residents access the wider financial support available from the Council.

“I would encourage those residents who haven’t applied for the £100 payment yet to check their eligibility on the Council’s website."

Luca Mecacci, a resident in the borough who received the £100 payment said:

"I found out about the Low-income support scheme through a letter from the Council and the £100 support payment I received, helped me manage my utilities debt."
